Smoking Cessation
Program Details (Back to Programs)

The NPFHT Smoking Cessation program provides a systematic approach to assisting patients when they are ready to quit smoking. Depending on your readiness to change, education will focus on barriers to quitting, behavioural strategies to cope with triggers, pharmacotherapy and Nicotine Replacement Therapy options, relapse prevention and maintaining a smoke free status.

Smoking is the leading preventable cause of death in Canada. NPFHT is offering free Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT) along with smoking cessation counselling to smokers who wish to quit.

Once assessed, you may be offered a choice of NRT types, including lozenges, gum, inhaler or patch. You will also be followed by a health care provider for additional support, education and advice to help you quit smoking. Research shows that smoking cessation medication in combination with counselling more than doubles long term quit rates.

To find out more and how you can be part of this program, speak to your health care provider or ask to be referred to Dietitian or Clinical Pharmacist.
